Do you have any old teacups you never use? If you do its time to dig them out! Here is great way to incorporate them into your home in a new and interesting way. They'll be sure to turn heads and add charm to any room.
And if you don't have any teacups, no worries. All you need to do is take a trip to your local china store. Ask if they have any chipped teacups and they'll usually give them to you for free. If that's a bust then just head on over to your favorite antique stores.
Teacups make great little planters for extra tiny plants. Take a look for yourself:
These cups will look great just about anywhere! Try them on your sunny breakfast table, your kitchen windowsill with planted herbs, as a centerpiece for your patio table or on your night stand or vanitiy in your bedroom. See if you can't find a wonderful place to put them! They cheer up any room! They also make wonerful and economic party favours and hostess gifts!
You will need:
Safety Goggles
Gloves
Electric Drill
A Small Ceramic Drill Bit (1/8 - 3/16 inch) (to make a drainage hole)
A Glass or Spray Bottle of Water
Potting Soil
Small Plant of Your Choice (ex. Irish Moss, Alyssum)
Method:
First, you must put on your safety goggles and gloves.
Attach the drill bit to your drill. Fill your cup with approx 1-2 tbsps of water. Insert the drill bit via the mouth of the cup, rest it perpendicular to the bottom of the cup. Apply pressure and drill at a slow speed. It may take a while, but it is important to drill slow so as to not crack the cup. Its best if you do this on a soft surface, such as grass, to absorb any vibration that could crack the cup. As your drill bit begins to go through you will need to add more water. Never let it dry while drilling. Once the drill bit makes it through, you can reverse the drill to pull it out.
All that's left to do it to plant your little plant! Sprinkle a little potting soil in the bottom of your cup to avoid air pockets. Loosen the root system of your desired plant gently and place it into the cup. Press down around the plant, again to avoid air pockets; but don't press too hard! You may need to add a little more potting soil to top it off. Spinkle your plant with water.
Enjoy!
This is so cute! I'd love to do this with herbs to keep near my kitchen.
ReplyDeleteAahhh! Thank you, Moeno! I'm glad you like them!
ReplyDeleteThis is cute. Old Teapots are great too, when my cut flowers are almost done, I like to take the few I still have left and arrange them in it. It's super pretty.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! I can't wait to try it out myself :)
